Targeting an audience and retaining their viewership is key if you want to run a successful blog or website. Keywords are important for getting noticed or found online, and Google is a key supplier of your new traffic. There must be a balance, though, if your writing is too keyword-heavy, it can be penalized by Google’s algorithms as “keyword stuffing”. You also do not want your writing to appear too formulaic, otherwise, the reader will find it a bit hard to get into. Here are some tips to optimize your content from keywords.

Creating Content From Keywords

When it comes to creating engaging content, the one thing you never want to do is to form all your stories around keywords. You should brainstorm your article ideas first, then work out how you are going to integrate and weave your keywords into it. Next, you’ll need to figure out where you should place your keywords into your content for maximum efficiency.

This is easier said than done!

There's the dilemma of wanting to optimize your content for the keyword that you want the search engine to find. So, instead of focusing on only one keyword you can alternate it with its synonyms. Google can now recognize synonyms for your keywords, so you don't have to repeat the same keyword in your content.

Besides writing content from keywords, you can optimize your keywords in other areas. These include putting it in the URL, the article’s title, header and sub-header, and in the meta description. Within the content, the keywords should be in the first and last paragraphs, and within the main body content.

Use Free Keywords Research Tool

When you research your keywords, you are targeting a specific audience for your website. You can use the free keywords research tool like Google AdWords Keyword Tool for this. But it has its limitation especially if you are looking for long tail keywords i.e. keywords that are three or four keyword phrases, such as 'content from keywords' that I used for this article heading. Readers tend to use very specific long tail keywords when they are looking for something. Hence, it is recommended that you use long tail instead of a single word keyword in your article. It might have a better chance of being low competition and get better ranking in Google search engine.

Alternatively, you can use Jaaxy for your long tail keywords research. It is a paid research tool but very competitive price when compared to other brands. You can read my Jaaxy Review here to see the comparison. It also gives you 30 free searches to try before deciding if you want to buy this program.

Writing for the Right Audience

This shouldn’t stop at just the keywords. Your content should be researched, even when the writing is completely from your own original ideas. Every article should be laid out with specific “intents” and “solutions” that your target audience is searching for and the ways in which your product or service can help them.

Don’t be afraid to optimize for local keywords, as well, even if your business of operation does not have a geographic location. Local keyword optimization is a huge opportunity to get your page ranking up while having very little traffic when starting out. The competition for these keyword phrases is much lower, in contrast to popular products or services that are dominated by large corporations with deep online marketing budgets.

Grab Their Attention

A common problem with keyword-based content strategies is that they are writing in a very robotic, often predictable manner. You should try to incorporate a question into the title or lead into one so that you get the reader to click the link, but don’t immediately jump into your pitch, if possible.

Sounding natural and still being able to effectively use keywords is not impossible, you just need to make sure you are targeting the right keywords for your business. For example, you may want to rank for “things to do in Oakland” more than “travel guides in Oakland” if you are aiming for more natural-sounding articles and a wider target audience, while still ranking locally.

These are just a few ways in which you can improve the effectiveness of your keyword integration into your website’s content. Your goal should be demonstrating value, as much as it is optimizing for Google’s page rankings. If you write engaging content, that content will be more likely to get shared online, naturally expanding your reach online.
